Floral Spring Dress

So despite all of this snow on the ground, I am so ready for spring. And while it may not seem like it, spring will be here before you know it. I recently found this amazing brushed hacci fabric from Sly Fox which I used to make this fabulous floral spring dress. It was my first ever purchase from the company and I was so thrilled to to find out they were local and instead of paying shipping I could pick up my fabric for free! Score! Add to that, I got to pick up my fabric at their offices and see rolls and rolls of beautiful knit fabric. I was seriously in fabric heaven. They even told me that if I call in, I can come shop at the office and checkout there too! I almost died…seriously. Read on for more about my first spring post.

Pattern Description: The women’s Breezy top & dress pattern by Ellie and Mac. The pattern is extremely versatile, with a peplum, mini, petite, dress and tall length option. The pattern also has several options for sleeve length. I cut the dress length with the long sleeves.

Pattern Sizing: The pattern comes in sizes XXS – 4XL. I cut a medium, which was perfect.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, it looked exactly like the photos.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Was this project beginner friendly? I’ve done several Ellie and Mac patterns and one thing I love about them is how simple they are. They are very beginner friendly and if you’ve been sewing for a while, you can usually sew them up without needing to reference the instructions at all.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? My favorite thing is how simple and easy this pattern was to sew up. It took me maybe an hour. My favorite part about this dress, is the high-low effect on the sides of the dress. LOVE it! I think it shows just enough leg!

New skills learned on this project? Nothing I haven’t done before but I did get to practice doing a curved hem. I have always struggled hemming skirts and dresses that are curved. This time I used my wonder tape to hold the hem in place for me until I was ready to sew. This made it much easier but I still need more practice. How do you do your curved hems? Fabric Used: As mentioned above, I used this beautiful brushed sweater knit, or brushed hacci. It’s not a heavy sweater knit, so I figured it would make the perfect spring dress. Not to mention the awesome floral print. By far one of my favorite fabric purchases to date.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added 1.5 inches to the bodice. I’m a tall girl so I like to make sure my finished garments hit where they should. So yeah, I extended the bodice a bit, which turned out to be a great call.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Absolutely. I really do love this pattern. I could see me making a short sleeve or sleeveless version in a light weight knit for the summer. I’ve actually already made another one in navy. I didn’t extend the bodice and the fabric I used was a bit more of a structured knit. So the bodice fits me closer than this version. I absolutely love it and the fit. I still need to hem it, so it’s not ready to share yet. But once it’s all done I’ll be sure to share!

Conclusion: Love, love love this pattern and dress. Can’t wait to make even more.
